The Hercules Non-Stairclimbing Forklift Range can lift 540kg off the back or a truck or van.

It is Ideal for warehousing or mezzanine floor situation, workshops or even to act as a general forklift for loading and unloading vehicles.

The Hercules Non-Stairclimbing Forklift Model QLA-EW comes complete with 12 volt, 33 amp hr sealed gel battery, automatic battery charger and one 3.6 metre retractable load securing strap (RW-1).

How does it work?

The stairclimbing gearbox is very efficient.
This X-ray view of the gearbox shows that with only three reductions we achieve a two hundred to one gear ratio. We use hardened gears and ball-bearings throughout and the dual 1800kg test lifting chains each have a pair of soft polyurethane lifting feet.

How do you operate the machines?  
The operating instructions on the Hercules Stairclimbing machines are located on a sticker on the cross member. Simply roll the handtruck back to the steps and push the "up" switch. To go down you roll the machine close to the edge of the stair and line up the machines sight-guide with the edge of the stair. Push the "down" switch and away you go.  
   
Will it climb all types of steps?  
The Portable Aluminium Stairs are used by the all models of the Heavy Duty Stairclimbing Range to climb on and off utes, trucks, and vans (depending on the height of the tray above road level).
Just drill two five sixteenths holes through tray on the inside of your tailgate, and the pins fit right in.

How fast does it climb?
  
We have three speeds of climb with the Hercules. The 315kg model is very fast, it climbs one step every four seconds. The 540kg is geared a little bit lower and it climbs a step about every six seconds, or just approximately one minute per flight. A special high speed Hercules Stairclimber is available, it climbs each step in 3 seconds.  
   
Is the step edge protected?  

The Hercules's large rubber wheels do not touch the edge of the step. The Hercules lands very gently on the step as it goes down. The lifting cams on the Hercules automatically lift the large rubber wheels up and over the edge. On the way back up the step they also lift the wheels up over the edge and set the wheels down exactly in the same place as they were when it went down the other direction. Notice how the Hercules lifts the load up and over the edge, never actually landing on the edge. Whereas with a normal non-powered handtruck the large rubber wheels would roll all the way to the edge of the step. This is why you never hear of a Hercules Stairclimbing machine breaking the edge of a step off, because it never puts weight on the edge of a step.

How long does the battery last?		  

This chart shows the relationship between the number of steps climbed up and back down again and the battery voltage on the Hercules machines. Notice that after you have climbed about 78 steps all the way up and back down again the voltage begins to drop. It drops very gently losing about one volt per flight of steps. As the battery voltage drops, the Hercules machine climbs slower and slower and this gives the operator a good warning that he needs to recharge his battery.

Because of the energy efficient gearbox on the Hercules machines, even with a totally dead battery although you may not have enough power to climb all the way UP the stairway, you will always have enough power to climb back DOWN the stairway. The standard battery included with the Hercules machines is a 17 amp per hour battery.

 
   
Will the stairclimber climb slippery surfaces?  
Because the lifting feet on the Hercules push straight down on the step with a vertical thrust, it can climb any type of step surface. You can climb waxed wood and wet tile. The Hercules can even climb a Teflon step. Teflon is the slipperiest substance made by man. This is because you never know what kind of surface you may encounter when using the Hercules Stairclimber.  
   
How does the lift balance?  

The Hercules balance is the same on the staircase as it is on the ground! On a full staircase operator has plenty of room to stand in a comfortable position with the Hercules Stairclimber in front of him. The weight on the Hercules is distributed perfectly. The balance point goes directly through the center of the load with the fulcrum point down at the lifting feet. On a short heavy loads like a safe you can achieve the same perfect balance by raising the load up on the forks. Again your center of gravity goes directly through the load with your fulcrum point down at the lifting feet.

  
   
Will it damage the steps?  
Everything that touches the steps with the Hercules is soft rubber. We have rubber wheels, rubber V-belt glide belts, and soft polyurethane lifting feet. The V-belts maintain contact with the step, although they do no lifting they prevent the Hercules from scratching the steps. The dual lifting feet on the Hercules stairclimber put the same amount of pressure on the steps as the large rubber wheels do. This is because they are the same width as the wheels and have the same amount of surface area. It is interesting to note that some of the older Hercules's only had a single lifting foot in the middle rather than the two that we have now. The reason that we changed is so that the operator wouldn't have to balance the load in a sideways direction. However, there are still a lot of these older units still in use and they still work fine with no damage to the steps.  
   
What other uses does it have?  
The Hercules Stairclimbing machines are incredibly versatile. You can climb up and down steps, roll on rough terrain, unload semi-trailers, load and unload trucks and vans, stack pallets and manoeuver in tight spaces.  
   
How do you load your truck?  
For customers that don't have a tailgate lifter we have the portable aluminium steps. You just drill two holes on the inside of your vehicle and the pins fit right in. We make sizes from 53.5cm to 112cm tall. All you have to do is measure from the ground to the height of the back of your vehicle and choose the correct size for your vehicle.  
   
What if I need parts?  
The Hercules Stairclimbing machines are made out of a lightweight aluminium modular construction, however, all the moving parts are steel. All the parts on the Hercules are easily replaceable by the operator in the field.

The inventor of the Hercules Stairclimber had over 25 years of experience repairing typewriters, coin machines and copiers. He designed the Hercules with an open architecture for easy maintenance. The complete stairclimbing mechanism can be removed for easy service in minutes.
